A short detour to Goosenecks State Park will offer you a great view of the San Juan River below. The result of 300 million years of time can be seen 1000 feet below. The river twists its way through the desert and flows for over 6 miles to cover only 1.5 miles in distance. It is known as an "entrenched meander."
If you go:
Look closely in the background and you can just see the tops of some of the red rock formations in Monument Valley. Goosenecks State Park offers picnic areas, primitive camping, vault toilets, and an observation shelter.
