The Mojave Preserve is set in 1.6 million acres of desert landscape. Sand dunes, mountains, cinder cones, Joshua trees, wildflowers and amazing places to hike are found in the borders.
If you go:
Stop for lunch at the renovated Kelso Depot visitor centre and check out the exhibits. Kelso is an old rail town that was crucial to the building of the historic Union Pacific railroad across the Mojave. Most of the roads are 2-wheel drive accessible, but always remember to carry plenty of water when exploring this park.
