      Arty, rustic, historic, funky, cool, quirky, 29 Palms Inn is all of these, and probably a little eccentric too. Built around a natural oasis 'the Oasis of Mara' in 1928, 29 Palms Inn consists of a characterful collection of adobe bungalows and modest cottages set amidst the palms, cacti and other flora of this part of California. There's a pool, a bar and a renowned restaurant that attracts diners from far afield.

      If you go:
      Book in, chill out, and don't expect room service! If you're not able to stay overnight, be sure to plan a meal in the cafe by the pool. Don't let it's casual appearance fool you -- the chef is highly regarded and this has been the hangout of vacationing Hollywood A-listers for years.

        Twentynine Palms is an "oasis of murals", so be sure to allocate some time to do some mural exploring when in town. The murals in Twentynine Palms are huge and plentiful.
