Exploration Place is an excellent hands-on museum for youngsters, and is in particular a favorite destination for home-school families. It features an especially good exhibit on aviation, as well as a medieval castle area that kids can explore. Also on the premises is the Boeing Dome, the largest theater dome in the state, with films shown on a 360 degree screen. The permanent exhibits are supplemented by many traveling exhibits such as CSI, inspired by the TV series of the same name. There's even a miniature golf course.

      If you go:
Open every day Except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Summer camp programs are available. Exploration Place is situated on the banks of the Arkansas River, in a museum district, next to the Mid-America All-Indian Center.

How did this one museum get the designation of being attractive for home-schooled students?

It's a good place for home-schoolers, with a variety of activities and attractions. It seems pretty hard to beat in the Wichita area for a place to let them play and explore.
