St. Anthony Falls is the only natural waterfall on the upper Mississippi River. The falling water also provided the essential power to turn Minneapolis into a major city. Overuse and poor engineering significantly damaged the original falls in the late 1800s, and there is now a concrete spillway and navigational lock to allow boats to move up river.

      If you go:
The falls are apart of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area with many miles of trails. They are also the cornerstone of the St. Anthony Falls Historic District which has preserved many of the historic mills and buildings that surround the falls.

I wonder if anyone captured any photos of the falls with this year's peak waterflow?
