      Tow Mater, inspiration

      This restored gas station recalls the heyday of Route 66 when it was a major thoroughfare. It's the home of the 1951 International tow truck that was the inspiration for 'Tow Mater' in the Disney-Pixar movie 'Cars', which sits beside some well-restored gas pumps from the days when this was a Kan-O-Tex gas station. The restored station, in addition to serving food, sells antiques and memorabilia relating to Route 66 and the 'Cars' film.

      If you go:
      Open limited days and hours, summer only. Watch for other buildings in Galena that inspired the town depicted in 'Cars'.

        With Cars-2 due to hit the silver screen in a matter of days, it will be interesting to see if business picks up here.

        I would really love to visit because my daughter is amazed by the movie Cars....I hope to visit this weekend if possible..
