• Cumberland Island Settlement - St. Mary's Georgia

      The Settlement is located fourteen miles north of the Sea Camp Dock area at the northern end of Cumberland Island. It was settled by former slaves after the Civil War. Several cabins ruins are still standing. One intact cabin belonged to of Beulah Alberty, a descendant of one of the original settlers. The most famous building in the Settlement is the First African Baptist Church where JFK, Jr. got married.

      If you go:
      The Settlement, cabin, and church are open daily and the Land and Legacy tour guide tells it's history. Unless you are a skilled hiker or biker, the best way to see the settlement is on the Land and Legacy Tour.
