• Homestead Heritage Craft Village - Waco, Texas

      Homestead Heritage Craft Village is a 510-acre homesteading community on the Brazos River near Waco, Texas. Start your tour at the visitors center, a 200-year-old chestnut and oak log cabin old village. You'll see a blacksmith, 1760s gristmill. spinning and weaving building, woodworking shop, pottery maker, and a lot of agriculture including an elaborate system of aquaponics. Homestead Heritage offers classes in most of the crafts. There is a cafe serving locally-produced food.

      If you go:
      The community is basically a religious community similar to the Amish or Mennonites so be aware of this when visiting. It's open Monday thru Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. They have two annual festivals, Thanksgiving weekend and Labor Day.
