• Panhandle Plains Historical Museum - Canyon, Texas

      Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is "The Smithsonian with a Texas accent." It is a fantastic museum located on Texas A and M University Campus in Canyon, Texas. It tells about the past 14,000 years and 26,000 miles of rugged Texas panhandle. It began during the Great Depression and continued to grow. Today, it's the largest history museum in Texas, housing over two million artifacts. There's Pioneer Town covering life in the Texas Panhandle from 1890 to 1910, transportation section goes from stagecoach to classic cars, The People of the Plains, and more.

      If you go:
      Summer Hours (Memorial Day- Labor Day) are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday thru Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Fall & Winter Hours (After Labor Day Until Memorial Day) are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Admitted Free - Members and children under age 4, West Texas A&M University faculty, staff, and students with Buff Gold Card, Veterans & Military - During the Summer with the Blue Star Program.
