While not particularly high at a relatively modest 23 meters, what they lacks in stature Athabasca Falls make up in sheer drama: they are said to be the most powerful in the Canadian Rockies. There's a short and generally easy network of paved paths leading to various overlooks delivering impressive views of the falls. If you follow the steps down, you'll enter the narrow canyon through which the waters of the Athabasca River surge.

      If you go:
Athabasca Falls are a popular attraction and you'll find washrooms, signs, and interpretive information. It can get busy during high season so best advice is to arrive in the morning ahead of the crowds. The first part of the trail - to the main viewing area - is wheelchair accessible
