The world's most famous lake? Maybe not, but certainly in the Top 10 and without doubt the most celebrated in Canada, and for good reason. Lake Louise encapsulates everything that attracts visitors to Rocky Mountains: turquoise waters, soaring mountains and - for the time being at least - a photogenic glacier. There's a lovely scenic walk along the shore (less than three miles there and back) and more challenging hikes for those looking for adventure, the hike up to Lake Agnes Teahouse offers beautiful views - and a cup of tea before you return.
If you go:
Parking at Lake Louise is notoriously busy. You may fall lucky but it's probably best to book ahead at the Lake Louise Park and Ride and take the shuttle bus.
