• Honeymoon Island State Park - Dunedin, Florida

Honeymoon Island was once part of Hog Island but separated by the hurricane that wrought so much havoc here. Its name was changed to the more romantic "Honeymoon Island" when a developer built picturesque palm thatched cottages for rentals. Newlyweds flocked to this beach for the solitude and beautiful sundrenched beaches with some of the best shelling in the state. The park offers a great place for wildlife viewing as well. Currently there is an eagle nesting area with a chick. We spotted several ospreys and even viewed a lone roseat apoonbill in a small lagoon near the beach.

      If you go:
The park is open 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. Feees are $8 per vehicle (limit eight people), $4 single-occupant vehicle, and $2 pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. There is a Sunset fee, starting one hour prior to sunset: $4 per vehicle.
