• Ybor City - Tampa, Florida

Don Vicente Martinez Ybor, a Spanish cigar manufacturer, came to Florida from Cuba. He first settled in Key West, then moved to Florida's western coast on Tampa Bay and built his own town and cigar manufacturing empire. He invited other cigar manufactures to come here and together they created the cigar capital of the world. Spanish, Sicilian, Italian, Germans, Romanian Jews, and other immigrants added to the melting pot. Each brought their native culture and food to form a culture found only in Ybor City. Ybor City is a city within a city. It's one of only three National Historic Landmark Districts in Florida. Technically, it's part of Tampa but it keeps many of its old ways. Where else do you find feral chickens roaming the streets. They are the descendants of chickens that once lived in the backyards of immigrant families.

      If you go:
If you go: Roam the streets and visit the many attractions here. It's a tiny city within a city. There are lots of ethnic restaurants here. Be careful driving, as chickens have the right of way.
