This intriguing sculpture garden on the lawn of the Abilene Convention Center features sculpture modeled after the work of famed children's book illustrator Garth Williams. Among other classics, Williams illustrated Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and folk tales in the Little Golden Book Series. Adults will view the sculpture with nostalgia and admiration for its artistry, while children will be absolutely enthralled to see some of their favorite storybook characters so vibrantly realized. The garden is one of several projects Abilene has undertaken to earn the title Storybook Capital Of America. There is also the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature and the annual Children's Art and Literacy Festival in June.
If you go:
The sculpture garden is free and always open. It's especially dynamic when lit up for evening events.
