Few antebellum houses remain in the Meridian area, but fortunately Merrehope is an exception. This stately 26-room Victorian mansion has been used for many purposes over the years, including a residence, and quarters for both Union and Confederate troops. In recent times, it's gained a reputation for being supposedly haunted by some of its former inhabitants. The F. W. Williams house, built a few years after the war, is another elegant architectural relic of a bygone era. One ticket will get you a tour of both houses.

      If you go:
Tours given January through March Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. Tours given April 1 through November 14 Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Closed Sunday. There is also a special Trees Of Christmas holiday tour.
