Dothan is called the Peanut Capital of the World because most of the nation's peanuts are grown within 100 miles, so it's a fitting site for the National Peanut Festival, held every year since 1938, except a for a brief hiatus during World War II. Taking place on a sprawling 200 acre fairground complex, the Festival features many old-fashioned fair events and activities like a cheerleading competition, a scavenger hunt, live entertainment, livestock and a midway.
If you go:
Festival offices are open year-round from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. The Festival is held over a 10 day period in early November.
