Operated by the University Of Florida, the Florida Museum Of Natural History is one of the nation's top five natural history museums. The facility houses exhibits showcasing the state's flora, fauna and people. It has an especially impressive assortment of fossils and reconstructions of prehistoric animals, including mammoth and mastodon skeletons and an amazing exhibit of teeth from giant sharks that are now extinct. And no visit to the museum is complete without strolling through the Butterfly Rainforest, where you will be greeted by hundreds of colorful butterflies from all over the world.

      If you go:
Open Monday through Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 5. Closed Christmas, Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving. Admission to the museum is free, but there is a charge for special exhibits and the Butterfly Rainforest, which are well worth it.
