Oconee State Park was built during the Great Depression by teams from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and this history is commemorated by a bronze statue of a CCC worker. Nineteen historic CCC-built cabins are scattered around one of the park's two lakes and there are also campsites with water and electrical hook-ups. Swimming, canoeing and fishing are the main activities at this family-focused mountain location, and there are several wooded trails too.

      If you go:
The park is open all year round. Fishing boats, kayaks and canoes are available to rent (private boats are not permitted). Rods and reels are available for loan from the park office.
