      Mention of the "South Wellfleet Wireless" is unlikely to excite anyone other than those with an intimate knowledge of wireless technology but this wind-blown site is actually of tremendous historical significance, For it was here on 19 January 1903 that apparatus erected by Guglielmo Marconi was used to send and receive the first two-way wireless communication between America and Europe, in the form of greetings between President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VII.

      Erosion of the sea cliffs on which the first US transatlantic wireless telegraph station once stood means that all that remains today is a metal plaque, but it's still fascinating to look out over the Atlantic near the point that witnessed the dawn of global wireless communication.
