Pilgrims Landing - Provincetown, Massachusetts

The Mayflower Pilgrims may have chosen to name their colony after the English town from they departed, but Plymouth was not their initial landing point. This momentous event took place some five weeks earlier, on November 11, 1620, when they came ashore in the natural harbour of what is now known as Provincetown at the northern end of Cape Cod. Their decision to move on the better known - but definitely second - landing point followed a skirmish with the local Nauset tribe.
