Boothbay Railway Village is a quaint little village that pays tribute to small town life in Maine a century or so ago, with special focus on its trains and other machinery. Some of the buildings are of authentic period construction and have been moved here. The 1847 Town Hall is still used for essentially its original purpose. There's also a fine collection of antique automobiles, a huge assortment of outboard motors, well-detailed model railroad exhibit, and even, most curiously, an assemblage of antique, rare and odd salt and pepper shakers. But the centerpiece is the antique narrow gauge steam locomotive pulling a train on which you can ride around the village.

      If you go:
Open daily 10 to 5 from late May to mid-October. Train operates on the hour from 11 to 4. Check the calendar for special demonstrations of blacksmithing and other trades and crafts of historical significance.
