The longest downhill ride in the whole country, the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is more than a mile of thrills. More like a toboggan on rails than a roller coaster, the small vehicle lifts you up leisurely on a scenic ride to the top of the hills, and then once you reach the top, it's down, down down all the way to the bottom around some sharp exciting turns. The ride operates rain or shine, or even in snow, closing only for thunderstorms.

      If you go:
Open daily 10 a.m. Closes at midnight on Friday and Saturday, and at 11 on other nights. You can ride again on the same day for a reduced rate. There are two parking lots, and the lower one has ample room for RVs.
