The early 20th century village of Plymouth Notch is the birthplace of Calvin Coolidge, 30th President, and is regarded as one of the best-preserved presidential sites in the country. The site is home to the house in which he was born in 1872, the homestead where his father Colonel John administered the presidential oath of office in 1923, Coolidge Hall which served as the Summer White House office in 1924, and the family cemetery. There's also a schoolhouse, farm shop, church, hernial store and post office, many with original furnishings.

      If you go:
The historic site is open daily from 9.30 am - 5 pm, from late May to late October. visitors can also tour the Plymouth Cheese Factory, a business opened in 1890 by John Coolidge, father of Calvin. The shop is open daily, all year round.

It is often said that visiting some town is like stepping back in time. Visiting Plymouth Notch is stepping back in time as the entire town is preserved much as it was in Silent Cal's day. An added attraction (as if it needed one) is that VT-100, the main road into and out of town is one of the most scenic roads in a scenic state. This is a site I persnally, and highly, recommend.

... and it was on your recommendation that we visited - so thanks! And yes, agreed, VT100 is a beautiful drive - especially in September.
