It's an art gallery, a science museum, a theatre, a planetarium and a concert venue all under one roof in downtown Charleston. The 240,000 square feet of the Clay Center houses the Juliet Art Museum, the Avampato Discovery Museum, the Caperton Planetarium, and an auditorium that has hosted performances ranging from Bob Dylan to Weird Al Yankovic to "A Prairie Home Companion." There are also live performances of theatre and comedy, as well as big-screen showings of hit movies. The center is near the heart of downtown, with many fine restaurants and other attractions.
If you go:
Box office open daily. Gallery and museum closed Mondays. Also closed on major holidays. The center has a very reasonably priced parking lot.
