This is a two-for-the-price-of-one attraction, a park that is home not only to an impressive reconstruction of the Fort Abraham Lincoln cavalry and infantry post (from which Custer and the 7th Cavalry departed in 1876 on their ill-fated campaign against the Plains Indians) but also the ruins of the 400 year old On-A-Slant Mandan Indian Village. There's an excellent museum too (built by the CCC in the 1930s), plus coffee and gift shop.

      If you go:
Other activities available at this 1,000+ acre park include RV/tent camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and bird watching.
