When it opened in 1994, the Dakota Dinosaur Museum attracted visitors from across the USA and beyond, but its future has been unclear for some time. Happily, the museum has now been acquired by the city and is the jewel in the crown of a 12-acre campus that also includes the Joachim Museum (focused on regional art and history), the Prairie Outpost Park (a collection of historic buildings), and the Pioneer Machinery Building.

      If you go:
The museum is home to 11 full scale dinosaur skeletons, a number of which were excavated within the area, and there's a good balance between entertainment and education, with exhibits for all ages. The centre is open Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
