Hidden in the hills of central Nevada, this old town is easy to miss but worth the detour from Nevada State Route 376. Considered a living ghost town, Manhattan flourished in the early 20th century mining craze but has managed to maintain a small population to this day. The abandoned remains of the Nye & Ormsby County Bank can be viewed on the side of Main Street as well as various cabins and miner's shacks. Manhattan's most impressive relic is the well-reserved wooden church overlooking the town from the side of Chipmunk Hill.

      If you go:
The Manhattan Bar and Motel is the only place to stay and is one of the only businesses in town. There are no gas stations in Manhattan. The Belmont Courthouse is about a 45 minute drive away but the road through the mountains is unpaved.
