La Jolla Cove offers some spectacular ocean views in addition to a variety of upscale shops and dining options. This is also one of the best spots to see sea lions in the wild. Sea lions flock to the cove and swim onto the beach to rest on the rocks. You can walk right up to them but keep in mind that, although adorable and very calm, they are wild animals that will strike if they are made to feel threatened. Water visibility on the cove can reach up to 30 feet, making it ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, or just swimming.
If you go:
Lifeguards are on duty year round, usually from 9 a.m. to dusk. Fishing is prohibited along the cove. There are many spots where you can walk out onto the sandstone cliffs around the cove for even better ocean views.
