Whitewater Canyon is the site a charming, picturesque and somewhat unusual trail, one involving a precarious-looking narrow metal walkway "the Catwalk" that clings to the sheer cliffs, 20 feet above the fast-flowing waters of Whitewater Creek. Miners used to make their way to work by walking up water pipes that had been laid through the canyon; some of these are still visible. Today's hanging walkway was first built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

      If you go:
The full trail that winds up through the canyon is an easy walk if you're halfway fit; much of the lower section including the catwalk itself is wheelchair accessible.
