Federal Hill is a large park set on top of a historic hill. The site offers amazing views of Baltimore's Inner Harbor as well the cityscape in general. Captain John Smith was the first European to see what we now know as Federal Hill in June of 1608. Federal Hill has been a landmark ever since the city of Baltimore was founded. Today, Federal Hill is a scenic city park with various monuments to notable Baltimorians and still the best vantage point for viewing the harbor.
If you go:
The park is always open and is a great spot to see the city's lights at night. There are stairs that lead you to the top, or you can make the climb up the hill on the grass. There is also a playground for the little ones to enjoy. There are no admission fees. The American Visionary Art Museum is at the base of Federal Hill and is well worth a visit.
