This five-bedroom home was awarded to General Ulysses S. Grant by the grateful citizens of Galena at the end of the Civil War. The two-story brick building has been decorated to reflect how it would have been from 1865 to 1868 (Grant relocated a larger property 'the White House' in 1869) and includes many furnishings that belonged to the Grant family. Guided tours take you through the parlour, dining room, library and kitchen, then upstairs to the bedrooms.

Leave time to explore the other historic buildings on this site, including the Long House, a log building from around 1850.
