Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave is a privately owned, fee-based attraction, but it is well worth the time and money to visit. You can hike up to the lower lip of the 800-ft volcano. Then you hike back to the ice cave that was formed in a collapsed volcanic tube. The temperature in it never goes above 31 degrees Fahrenheit, so there is always ice in it. The volcano and cave are adjacent to El Malpais National Monument, but are not a part of the park.

      If you go:
Fees $10 - adult; $5 - 5-12; under 5 free. Wear good hiking shoes for the cinder trail, but the trails are fairly easy to walk.
