Blowing Rocks Preserve is a 73-acre recreation area that includes one of Florida's finest beaches, offering swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. But what makes it unique and gives it its name is the abundance of Anastasia limestone formations, at least 120,000 years old, found along the beach - in other places, such formations are usually found underwater or underground. The tidal surges 'blowing' through fissures in this limestone can shoot geysers of water as high as 50 feet. The Hawley Education Center has displays about local area plants and animals and information about the Nature Conservancy's efforts to preserve similar habitats.

      If you go:
Hawley Center open daily 9:00 to 4:30 except for major holidays. Highest blowing rock geysers are to be found in winter.
