If you've only got time for a short stroll from Tuolumne Meadows visitor center, this easy 1.5-mile loop takes an hour at most and allows you to get off the road and breath in the air. The destination is Soda Springs, where naturally occurring carbonated water bubbles up through the ground. As well as being an interesting natural feature, it is also of historical significance, being the site at which John Muir and Robert Underwood Johnson first had the idea of creating Yosemite National Park.

      If you go:
You can taste the water if you wish, but rangers don't recommend it because of risk of surface contamination.
