• Bluff Dwellers Cavern - Noel, Missouri

Missouri has many enticing caverns, but Bluff Dwellers is particularly worth touring because of its rich archaeological significance. The Bluff Dwellers who used the cave for shelter 12,000 years ago left many artifacts which are displayed at the cave's entrance and in the adjoining museum. These include weapons and tools and even a couple of skulls. There is also an exhibit of more recent history, from the life and times of Arthur Browning, who discovered the cave on his property in 1925, and whose family still owns it. The tours of the cave, lasting 45 minutes to an hour, are fun, informative, and not particularly strenuous. The guides are cordial and entertaining, to ensure that your visit is a memorable one.

      If you go:
Open every day all year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. You might want to make certain that you have a recording device on the tour, because your guide may demonstrate that one of the rock formations has a pleasant musical quality when struck.
