The visitor centre at Fort Necessity provides an excellent introduction to the significance of this opening battle in the French and Indian War. The reconstructed fort is a short stroll away along a shady woodland trail and is set in the picturesque Great Meadow, described by Washington himself as 'charming field for an encounter.'
