Cocoa Beach is a small but vibrant community best known for its namesake beach, a six-mile stretch from which visitors and residents have a good vantage point to witness the launch of space shuttles from Cape Canaveral, a few miles to the north. But the beach is also a prime location for swimming and surfing. Accordingly, Ron Jon Surf Shop has situated one of its outlets next to the beach, allegedly the world's largest surf shop. And like many other local businesses, Ron Jon is open 24 hours.

      If you go:
There is free parking, with plenty of room for RVs, at Ron Jon Surf Shop. If you are planning to watch a shuttle launch, arrive at least an hour before the scheduled launch time. Be aware also that parking is much more difficult during summer and special events. During winter, however, the city is much less crowded and the beach is often warm enough for swimming.
