Unique among capitol buildings in having working oil wells in its grounds, Oklahoma State Capitol was only 'completed' in 2002 when the dome - part of the original plans but left off when the building was constructed in 1917 - was finally added. The capitol is also home to an extraordinary collection of more than 100 paintings, murals and sculptures depicting events from Oklahoma's history, its landscapes and many of the State's most notable sons and daughters.

      If you go:
The capitol is open from 7.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm weekends and holidays. Guided tours are held at 9am, 10am, and 11am and 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
