• Arcosanti - Mayer, Arizona

Begun in 1970, Arcosanti is an urban experiment using the principles of arcology. Paolo Soleri, who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, branched into compact urban design. Arcosanti illustrates many innovative methods, though it is a long way from being a city, partially because of a lack of funding. The sale of beautiful ceramic and bronze windbells raise about half of the funds to operate and expand Arcosanti.
