Located just a short walk south from the Giant Forest Museum parking lot, Beetle Rock is an expansive area of granite offering wide open views of the Sierra foothills. It's a favorite destination for photographers looking for spectacular shots of the sun rising or setting, and a great place to take kids with excess energy to burn off. Although its domed shape does suggest the shell of a beetle, it actually acquired its name for the Trachykele Opulenta Beetle, discovered here in 1905.
