This overlook of Roanoke boasts the world's largest human-made star. It was erected in 1949 as symbol of city of Roanoke. It's located adjacent to the zoo and provides an outstanding view of Roanoke and the surrounding countryside. The overview is only a mile or so from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's a web cam mounted on the star which provides a nice view of the area. The star is illuminated each night by 2000 feet of neon tubing using a variety of colors.
