• General Patton Memorial Museum - Chiriaco Summit, California

      This facility paying tribute to the legendary American army general might seem to be in an odd location on this desolate stretch of freeway between Blythe and Indio, but it's near the site of Camp Young, the base established by General Patton himself. The museum features exhibits from World War I though the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and boasts an especially impressive assortment of vintage military vehicles. Founded by relatives of Joe Chiriaco, who ran a business here, and whom General Patton consulted before deciding on the military training site.

      Open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas, from 9:30 to 4:30. Nominal entrance fee.
