• Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art - Bentonville, Arkansas

Since the city of Bentonville was named for painter Thomas Hart Benton, who was born in Missouri a few miles away, it was perhaps inevitable that it eventually would become the site of a world class art museum, housing the works of Benton, O'Keefe and many other masters. It's a splendidly designed structure in a rustic setting with several paths for walking, biking and reflecting.

      If you go:
The museum is open daily except Tuesdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Admission to the permanent collection is free, though fees may apply for special exhibits. Trails are open dawn to dusk all year long.
