• Old Colorado City - Colorado Springs, Colorado

      Old Colorado City was the first permanent settlement in the Pikes Peak region and the first capitol of the Colorado Territory. It was the headquarters of the Colorado Midland Railroad, had a glass works, and later four gold ore reduction mills operated here. Its colorful history is commemorated each year during Territory Days and at the Old Colorado City Historical Society's History Center. Fun shopping also in the many shops along the main street.

      If you go:
      Territory Days is held annually near the end of May. The History Center is open all year. Winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with extended hours in the summer. You can download an app for your i-device and take a walking tour. (Check at the history center.) Restaurants, galleries and stores line West Colorado Avenue.
