This superb museum opened its doors in August 2012 and has something for all ages. There are interactive exhibits and audio/video presentations that explain the history of the river; special features on the 1927 flood; an aquarium that allows you to get up close to the river's fish; and the M/V Mississippi IV, a dry-docked Corps of Engineers riverboat that's open to self-guided tours. If weather permits, go outside and experience the interactive flood model that allows you to walk the river and control the flow by opening and closing dams.
If you go:
Opening hours: Tues-Sat: 9am - 5pm; Sunday (April - October): 1pm - 5pm. Closed Mondays plus Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
