• Longyear Museum - Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts

The Longyear Museum is dedicated to promoting an understanding of the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Christian Science sect and resident of the area. In addition to offering exhibits of photographs, documents and artifacts, the museum maintains eight historic houses, six in Massachusetts and two in New Hampshire, where Mary Baker Eddy lived. These houses, which might be of more interest to the general public than the museum itself, are restored to their look at the time of her occupancy, providing a colorful glimpse into life a century ago. Among them is the home in nearby Swampscott, considered the birthplace of Christian Science.

      If you go:
Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Admission to the museum is free, but a small donation is suggested for each historic house.
