Held in September each year, the public is invited to watch the buffalo roundup. The park's herd is driven into corrals, where the herd is tested, branded and sorted in preparation for the sale of excess buffalo. Come watch an event out of the wild West as the herd, which could number as many as 1300, thunders in!
If you go:
Two viewing areas are set up, with shuttles providing transportation from there to the corrals after the herd is rounded up. Bring chairs, binoculars, water and hats. Leave pets elsewhere. RVs are discouraged. A number of concessions will provide food and related activities will be held before and after the round up. Lodging and camping available in the park; make reservations well in advance. Park entrance license is not required on the day of the roundup, but required all other days.
