Drive the northernmost section of Utah's National Scenic Byway 12 through Dixie National Forest and you'll be passing over the highest timbered plateau in North America. The views from the various pullouts on Boulder Mountain are spectacular, stretching out over the Waterpocket Fold and beyond to the Henry Mountains. This region is known as the 'Land of a Thousand Lakes' and is a magnet for fishermen. Hikers can access the Great Western Trail - a scenic corridor linking Canada with Mexico - in four places.
