• Grand Village of the Natchez Indians - Natchez, Mississippi

      Grand Village of the Natchez Indians became the main ceremonial center for the nation in the late 1600s. The mounds were built up to use as bases for sacred buildings. The bones of "Suns" or chiefs were buried in them. Walk on the ceremonial plaza. Stand on the Temple Mound to get a view of the layout. Stop in the visitor center for exhibits and an explanation of the structure of their society.

      This site is is a National Historic Landmark administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Admission is free. Gift shop and displays in the visitor center. Nature trail.
