      Stepping aboard a United States battleship can be a breathtaking experience. The USS North Carolina offers just such an experience. This battleship served during World War II. It was commissioned in 1941, decommissioned in 1947 and not until 1961 was the ship finally restored and opened to the public. Some of the interior is accessible. On the deck, visitors will likely be most struck by the size and workings of the ship's anchor.
